Sw'elegant

Country Joe McDonald
wrote, ".... reminds me of a combination of early B52's and Ken
Nordine/Word Jazz." Thom Jurek from All Music Guide
says in the liner notes "Sharp enough to cut glass around a
cynic's heart." Let the describing begin. Sw'elegant: 1) a term for those too old to be cool, 2) sexuality transformed into a sassy spiritual quality, 3) cheeky grace, 4) a contraction from the Cole Porter tune, Well, did you evah? which combines the words "swell" and "elegant." This release is a large canvas that requires a great deal from the listener. It has no value as background or quick study. Spend time with each track, see them as songs, then short stories, then paintings. The book contains lyrics, band bios, and photos. Also included is an essay by Thom Jurek entitled, "What the Silence Has Conceded" and the short story "The Blahonie Brothers get a Hagfish" by Michael Salinger. Musicians : Kim Webb - vocals, guitar; Renee Tambeau - vocals; John Demko - vocals, guitar, Euphonium; Richard Perry - percussion; Stuart Tucker - drums |
